Landscape Architecture Market is valued at $2.3 Billion
I was struck by this headline from Huffington Post referencing just how large the Landscape Architecture Market is valued at. Wow! Who would of thought… $2.3 Billion? It’s one of those things that you often never think about but appreciate in a subtle way. The author, Jared Green, Editor of The Dirt, writes that “landscape architecture services account for 14 percent of total architectural services, which are estimated to be valued at $16 billion. In 2012, an estimated 21,000 landscape architects were employed, earning about $1.8 billion.”
It’s pretty clear that Landscape Architects improve our natural surroundings especially in cities filled with concrete, brinks and glass. It’s been “demonstrated that designed urban plazas and green spaces generate significant economic benefits: they raise nearby property values, which in turn leads to more tax revenue for governments, attract tourists, clean the air, and store storm water.”
We should all be thankful that Landscape Architects take their jobs seriously and are better trained than ever before. They have a lot of influence over our surroundings and of course, provide plenty of economic benefits. For now on, I am going to try not to take them for granted anymore and pay more attention to my surroundings.
